Abaeté shoes

abaete logo Abaeté shoes

Here’s your delicious A-list of Abaeté shoes. Abaeté embodies the spirit of its designer and founder, Laura Poretzky: it captures French femininity, Brazilian sensuality, and American simplicity. Pronounced ah-BYE-ah-tay is Laura’s family name, and translates roughly to “person of virtue.”

Abaeté logo is the original Portuguese family crest, which was awarded to her great-great grandfather in the mid-1800′s for his service as the President of the Brazilian Senate, and his work as a leading abolitionist.

Laura Poretzky began Abaeté in 2004 with a well-received, Japanese-influenced resort collection for the 2005 season, which debuted in stores such as Kirna Zabete and Linda Dresner. Several months later Abaeté held its first fashion show for the Spring 2005 Collection during New York Fashion Week at the Altman Building.

French Femininity, Brazilian Sensuality, American Simplicity. All Abaeté shoes and garments are made in Manhattan, which guarantees the highest quality fit and craftsmanship.

  • Laura Poretzky biography. Born in France to a Russian father and a Danish-Brazilian mother, and raised between Paris, Rio de Janeiro and New York. With a lifelong interest in the arts, she was accepted into the top-ranked Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) to study photography, but switched to fashion design when she found herself spending more time with the fabrics she was shooting than in the darkroom. Upon graduation, Laura was hired to a coveted position at Ralph Lauren, where she further refined her design sensibilities. Having spent much of her life on the beaches of Brazil, sketching local styles, Laura left Ralph Lauren to create her own line of sexy, wearable Brazilian-inspired swim- and resort-wear called Abaeté. Within months, the company won widespread recognition. She is increasingly involved in New York society as a young patron of the arts, and a presence in the social scene. She has recently become a member of the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America.
  • Hollywood supporters. The Spring 2006 Collection was sponsored by UPS, and for the first time Abaeté took part in IMG/Olympus New York Fashion Week in the Tents at Bryant Park. The collection, based on the movie Black Orpheus, was immediately hailed a “Stellar debut with a selection of richly colored, beautifully trimmed (pieces)” by the New York Post, and received much attention from both major national and international press. From Hollywood to the Hamptons, Abaeté suits were in top fashion magazines, and on celebrities and fashionistas everywhere from Hollywood to the Hamptons. Abaeté has been seen on Kristin Dunst, Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, Nicky Hilton, Mischa Barton, Rihanna, Ashanti, Vanessa Minnillo, Kate Moss, and Jessica Alba. Abaeté has been seen and featured in Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, InStyle, WWS, W, New York Post, as well as manhy other regional, national, and international publications.
  • Abaeté signature style. Laura Poretzky has extended her range to create a complete line of ready-to-wear, drawing as much on her experience as a New Yorker as on her Latina and Eurasian roots. Her past inspirations range from the Russian Romanov period, to the Brazilian movie Black Orpheus, to the 1960′s Mod era, and even to the lighting installations of Dan Flavin. The sophisticated, feminine designs have captured the imagination of stylists and editors alike, while her years of experience with fabric and construction ensure a perfect fit, every time. Abaeté was approached by Payless ShoeSource in an effort to create their first-ever designer shoe collection. The first Abaeté for Payless Collection hit the runway during the Fall 2006 Show in February of 2005, this time in the Atelier at Bryant Park. While garnishing much attention from the Wall Street Journal, WWD, USA Today, and most of the major fashion publications, it also experienced extremely, high sales figures with many styles selling out, prompting a continuation and expansion of the collection.
