  • ParisTexas by Ahmet Baytar. The story started in a stylish cafe in Istanbul. Sertac Haznedaroglu (ParisTexas founder) and Ahmet Baytar (Industrial Designer) were sitting gracefuly enjoying their drinks and the surrounding atmosphere. Somehow the conversation spontaneously evolved towards the theme “Why all these pretty girls are wearing the same cliché-boring shoes? There should be something to do. Something different, fun, smart, elegant and chic. But above all something “woman”: Something comfortable to wear, makes feel better and fresh and will last for years”. Sertac’s opinion about what she wears is simply that:” I want to feel a connection between me and what I’m wearing. But I don’t want just have a good looking stuff. I want it to be solid and feel the high quality in each details. Because that’s what I love and what I look for.” The day after, after a long sleepless night, Ahmet Baytar came back with a bunch of ideas with drawings and leather samples. The brand had a marvelous success among Ahmet and Sertac’s friends, which was followed by orders coming from everywhere.
  • 2009/2010 Autumn/Winter. “I was trying to appreciate the movie “Mulholland Drive”, apart from its being visually satisfying and its screen and sound effects pulling the watcher into a stream, I found that the two main characters of the film had affected me. The progress of the events in the movie, fluctuating between reality and fantasy, was the same dilemma that I had whilst deciding the height of the shoes and boots. And disturbed me in the same way. Instead of avoiding this dilemma, I decided to embrace it and to reflect this dilemma directly onto my designs, then they appeared in my sketches, unexpectedly, as the story unfolded. During the final period of making shoes, after the design process, I needed to make some small decisions, like choosing the right heels, colour of the leather, etc. While I was making these decisions, the aesthetic behavior of Naomi Watts and Laura Elena Harring’s amazing performance remained in my mind and have steered me in the direction that I have gone. I feel that the story of Mulholland Drive continues in my designs.” says Ahmet Baytar.

Where Can I Buy Ahmet Baytar shoes

For those who have never seen David Lynch’s movie, the story is about two beautiful women. The first, Rita, seeks asylum in a house after losing her memory in a car crash and the second, Betty, who is seeking stardom. Often seen in the streets of Istanbul, Ahmet Baytar favorite designers or brands are Zucca, Martin Sitbon, Aitor Throup, Martin Margiela, Sophia Kokosalaki, Yazbukey, Gaspard Yurkievich, Gilles Rosier, David Lewis of Bang & Olufsen. Least favorite designers or brands are Boss, Prada, Dior, Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana.

All Ahmet Baytar designs are available at ParisTexas (Camekan Sok. 3B Kuledibi, Istanbul). For ParisTexas Spring/Summer 2010, Ahmet Baytar presents “A Feast for Shoe Fetishist”. “The bright spotlighting I have seen in Alfred Hitchcock’s movie “Stage Fright”. All the actors and actresses in the movie were perfect in every way. That was kind of when I realized perfectionism becomes an obsession! In this new collection I tried to reflect the dance of perfectionism and obsession. Together with flashes of Betty Page’s voyeuristic fetishistic attitude. I also wanted to incorporate the angular shapes and sharp edges of everyday objects that surround me. I like to think that my shoes will be worn with the idea that the wearer is taking a walk on the dark side, with a hint of voyeuristic pleasure thrown in!” says Ahmet Baytar.
