Here’s your delicious A-list of Boxfresh shoes. Boxfresh is a British fashion label founded in 1989 by Roger Wade. The brand name originally derived from New York hip-hop slang describing a new pair of shoes as being “fresh out of the box”.

Someone or something that is new and cool or innovative in a fashion sense. Boxfresh first clothes produced were customised prints on vintage stock T-shirts and were sold at the home of alternative fashion on stalls at Greenwich Market and Camden Market, London.

The company was founded at a time when dance music and hip-hop ruled the UK airwaves, which in turn heavily influenced the birth of British streetwear. Music, art and street culture are the backbone in everything they do because Boxfresh is a brand that celebrates life to the fullest.

In the right place, at the right time since 1989, Boxfresh is a very British way of life that spans the last two decades of youth culture.

  • History of Boxfresh. In 1989, a lot of very culturally significant stuff was going on around the world. Chinese intellectuals and students protested for months and were then slaughtered for freedom of rights, The Americans were busy voting in the first of the Bush dynasty, Germans were tearing down the Berlin wall by hand. In England, teenagers waited eagerly in motorway service stations for directions to fields in the middle of nowhere. Fields of dreams immortalized in the memory of the UK dance scene. Boxfresh was born out of this, a hedonistic generation evolving through acid jazz, trip hop, drum and bass into UK garage, grime and dub step. Trends and people may have come and gone, but their ethos has never changed. They are the British streetwear originators.
  • Large selection. In 1991, Boxfresh started selling to key Japanese streetwear accounts and were licensed to the USA in 1995. Ranging from extra cool clothing to the ever stylish shoe range, the brand continues to capture the true vibe of the early 90s dance scene, when Boxfresh shoes were born. There is nothing better than showcasing a varied range of super cool casual shoes for the “street crew” to give the thumbs up. Large selection of shoes like the Boxfresh Sparko, Boxfresh Eavis, Boxfresh Swich and many more that have been really rocking the industry with new designs and innovative styles. If style is everything, Boxfresh is the brand you need. The first flagship store was opened on Seven Dials in Covent Garden in 1992.
  • Boxfresh clothing. Consists of a variety of classic tonal, street-friendly hues mixed with brighter, bolder summery pops. With cheerful checks paired with more traditional stone, slate and gunmetal colors for a unique style and look. From pants, tees, to hoodies and jackets, Boxfresh doesn’t miss an opportunity to proudly show off their British street heritage. In classic Boxfresh tradition, the men’s shoe line reinforces their playful nature with the use of vibrant colors in new, lightweight materials. The color palette’s design inspiration comes from a wide variety of places, eras and global streetwear trends: neon Tokyo in the ‘80s, the British corduroy craze in the ‘70s and the classic denim look of the NYC. Boxfresh was acquired by the Pentland Group in 2005.
