- History of Nicolina. Almost 60 years ago, a young Greek shoe craftsman worked tirelessly, day and night, cutting leather, gluing and stitching, and hand-crafting every pair of shoes for sale throughout Western Europe. This shoe craftsman was unknowingly sowing the seeds of greater things to come. Creating artisan, high quality products of limited editions, using meticulous attention to detail, was the only way he knew how to make shoes. His dynamic commitment, persistence, knowledge and attention to detail, was somehow passed down to his grandson, Jeremy Angelis, “My grandfather was an incredible man whose hard work, dedication, love and guidance will be cherished by me and he is always in my thoughts”. Whilst working with an Italian shoe manufacturer commissioned by various luxury brands, Jeremy Angelis began to conceptualise and create his own designs. This followed with an exhaustive search to find an artisan manufacturer, and successfully resulted in his first collection, confirming his passion and ability for designing exquisite and sensual, luxury women’s shoes. Nicolina, the exclusive, designer shoe label was born.
- International shoe museum. Nicolina recently inducted into the prestigious International Shoe Museum in Milan. March 2010, Pietro Bertolini’s ‘Museo Internazionale della Calzatura’ – Italy’s International Shoe Museum in the historic shoe-making city of Vigevano (Milano) – will add Nicolina luxury shoe style ‘Confidenza’ in pink embossed suede to its Museum’s collection of over 2000 pieces. In 2009, Nicolina moved to London and continues to produce collections using Jeremy’s original team of Italian artisan craftsmen and high quality suppliers. “Being asked to include our ‘Confidenza’ style as part of Italy’s most important and celebrated Shoe Museum Collection is a great honour and a fantastic way for Nicolina to celebrate our first 5 years! Entering shoe-making history and being exhibited amongst talented creators such as Christian Louboutin, Casadei, Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo is just wonderful. Importantly, being able to share our creativity and passion with luxury shoe lovers and future creators is fundamental for the future of our craft” commented Jeremy Angelis.
- Nicolina signature lilac soles. According to Greek mythology, there was a beautiful nymph named Syringa. Captivated by her beauty, Pan, the god of the forests and fields, chased Syringa through the forest. Frightened by Pan’s affections, Syringa escaped him by turning herself into an aromatic bush, the flower now refer to as lilac. In the language of flowers, purple lilacs symbolise the first emotions of love. Jeremy Angelis completes his creations with lilac leather soles, for all women to fall in love. Each sole is embedded with a single white diamante crystal.
