Born 19 March, 1963, in Edmonton, Canada, Patrick Cox was educated locally, except for periods when his father’s work led the family to postings in Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon. At the age of 19, he produced his first pair of shoes, for the Toronto-based designer Loucas Kleanthous, who suggested Patrick Cox consider a career as a designer. In 1983, he decided to make those dreams a reality, moving to London to study shoe design at Cordwainers Technical College in the East End. Straight out of college and too much acclaim he launched his own collection in September 1985 and was soon known in celebrity circles as “the shoe guru!” By September 1991 he was ready to open his first store and so, number 8 Symons Street opened its doors.
  • Hollywood supporters. On the eve of his first decade in the industry, The British Fashion Council awarded Patrick Cox with “Accessory Designer of the Year” for two years running.
